People not numbers: name-based email for students
From 14 December, all new students will use the name-based version of their email address as default.
Mail that's addressed to the old number-based format s1234567@sms.ed.ac.uk will still be delivered.
Why is this happening?
The University wants to treat students as individuals and one very visible way we can help achieve this is to use students' name-based email addresses as the default, used by and to contact students, rather than the number-based email addresses (such as s1234567@sms.ed.ac.uk).
