Inaugural Centre Away Day Trainee awards for "Excellence in Public Engagement": Cathy Hawley and Iris Mair

June 2017: Trainee awards for "Excellence in Public Engagement" were presented to Cathy Hawley and Iris Mair at the inaugural MRC Centre for Inflammation Research at the University of Edinburgh Away Day on 29 June 2017.

The inaugural MRC Centre for Inflammation Research at the University of Edinburgh Away Day was held on 29 June 2017 in Appleton Tower (George Square, Edinburgh). Great attendance, high levels of participation and excellent science made sure it was a real success!

A new Trainee award for "Excellence in Public Engagement" was shared this year, with certificates and Amazon vouchers presented to Cathy Hawley and Iris Mair. Iris has been very actively involved in the Centre's public engagement activities as a PhD student and now as a postdoc; conceiving and developing the Immunology Stickers activity for our Amazing Immunology workshops, and volunteering for many science festival events. Cathy has been involved throughout her PhD, with a particular emphasis on helping to develop our recently launched Supercytes game and resource, to which she has made many key contributions.

We look forward to making these awards an annual event to help raise the recognition for all the terrific public engagement that our Centre's trainees undertake.
