Sport for the Environment

The Academy of Sport draws upon expertise across the University to promote, provide and shape outdoor sport and adventure agendas, policies and professional practice.

Football in Edinburgh

Researchers at the University of Edinburgh will continue to consider the impact of sport on the environment and explore the costs and benefits of sustainable tourism.

Our researchers and students are exploring fundamental questions about sport and physical cultures across the globe and the relationships between north, south, east and west.

We advocate for a greener and more just approach to major events such as the Olympics.

We support the work of Scotland's United Nations recognised Regional Centre for Education for Sustainable Development that is advocating wider access to the outdoors for education for sustainable development.

We contend that there should be broad social access to Scotland as one of the best 'green gymnasiums' for outdoor sport in Europe, but also seek comparative lessons and solutions from research and practice in and from other parts of the world.

The Academy seeks to advance and advocate for outdoor adventure sport while exploring sport's role in engaging with broader environmental agendas.
