The importance of basic research involving sport and physical culture within the humanities and social sciences that is focused upon providing a better understanding of the role and validity of values in personal and public life cannot be overstated.

Our social and political security and stability in today’s world as human beings requires an ability to communicate effectively and sport has the capacity to convey meanings and help with connectivity.

Researchers are pursuing ambitious agendas that will help us understand how sport and other areas convey messages and values.

We are exploring the impact of new social media on sport and recognize that sport is viewed as a language of communication.

We are collectively advocating for a better social, historical and political understanding of sport and physical culture today and in the past.

We need to understand how sport and related areas can help with connectivity and cultural relations in a way that helps cities and countries talk to each other and develop mutual understanding.

We need to engage in cross-cutting work with other scientists in the Institute of Sport, Physical Education and Health Sciences to get a fuller picture of what human performance means in the world today.
