Sport, Inequality & Social Justice

By examining the ideological practices and processes involving sport and physical cultures it becomes possible to challenge inequitable practice in and through sport.

Researchers at the University of Edinburgh have been exploring two key dimensions of sport, social inequality and social justice - socio-economic aspects and geo-political aspects.

We will, with our Global Justice Academy, explore issues of social justice and human rights in and through sport and related areas.

Researchers working with the Academy of Sport continue to promote and enable equality of condition, equality of capability and equality of opportunity in and through sport and physical cultures.

We support audits of representation and visibility upon executive boards, examine claims of progress on issues of inequality involving major sporting events and recognise real difference where it has been made.

The Academy of Sport works with others to help create, advance and disseminate knowledge, and understanding about sport, inequality and social justice.
