MSc by Research in Biomedical Sciences (Life Sciences)

Megan Swim (2012/13)

The MSc Biomedical programme teaches a wide range of techniques providing Megan with more than one career path.

What did you get out of the course?

Megan Swim

This course gave me the training to be a more confident scientist.

After spending time in the Centre for Cardiovascular Science (cardiovascular rotation) and Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine (Genes and Diseases) I learned such a wide range of techniques that the postdoc in my new lab says she can learn new things from me.

It is the perfect course to find out what kind of scientist you want to be. The program director, all my supervisors, and principle investigators were extremely helpful, kind, and excellent teachers.

What are you doing now?

I have taken a fully funded PhD in cardiology at the University of Bristol investigating tissue engineering for potential treatment in congenital heart defects.

Where are you hoping to go next?

I plan to stay in research, however, my exact career path is undecided. My education has prepared me for a number of careers choices which is a significant advantage depending on whichever path life takes me.
