Dr John Verrall, University of Saskatchewan, delivered the inaugural seminar presentation, exploring his recent work on the radiographic examination of Egyptian mummies in association with the Institute of Evolutionary Medicine, University of Zurich. He explored the current field of mummy studies, described the current understanding of Egyptian mummification practices, and discussed some of the exciting discoveries which radiographic analyses might soon lead us to, with examples from recent imaging studies.

Currently a Lecturer in Anatomy, with a broad range of experience including geophysics, anatomy, and diagnostic imaging and radiology, John also joined the Anatomy@Edinburgh team on-campus for a short period to exchange knowledge, develop new ideas, and further international collaboration in anatomy education.

The Anatomy@Edinburgh Seminar Series is organised by Dr Jennifer Paxton, Senior Lecturer in Anatomy, and Dr Stephen Maclean, Lecturer in Anatomy. They hope to announce a schedule for future events beginning in 2024.
