Position Lecturer in Biochemistry

What kind of research do you do?

We are interested in proteins that are important for memory formation and learning in vertebrates. They are called glutamate receptors and they are present almost all of our neurons (and there are over 80 billion of them!). These proteins ensure that signals between neurons are transmitted extremely quickly and we want to understand how they do it and what diseases develop if they cannot do it properly.

What kind of teaching do you do?

I teach different aspects of protein structure and function to early year undergraduates and neuroscience related topics to higher years.  We also love having Honours and Master's students in our lab - they have so far always contributed valuable data to our projects.
