Undergraduate study - 2025 entry
Edinburgh: Extraordinary futures await.

What happens if you might be eligible for a Plus Flag

If you are assigned a Plus Flag, we will normally make you an offer at the minimum entry requirement.

The information on this page is correct for 2024 entry. We are currently reviewing criteria for 2025 entry. We will update this page once we confirm the criteria.

You need to be predicted to meet those minimum entry requirements if you haven’t already met them. You will also need to have any required subjects. These vary depending on your chosen course, so check our degree finder for the programme you are interested in studying.

You are not guaranteed an offer if we assign you a Plus Flag

We can’t always guarantee that a Plus Flag applicant will be made an offer.

Each year we will take account of the number of places available and the nature and scale of demand within subject areas.

In a very small number of degrees, we may have more Plus Flag applicants than we have places available. In this situation, we would not be able to make widening access offers to every one of those applicants.

Also, there are some subjects where we look at more than just academic grades in the selection process. Depending on the degree programme, we may also look at portfolios, UCAT scores, or require you to attend an assessment day or interview.

These subjects are:

  • art and design

  • medicine

  • veterinary medicine

  • education

  • nursing

In these cases, if you have a Plus Flag and have achieved or are predicted to achieve the minimum entry requirements, your application will be given extra credit and will be guaranteed to progress to the next stage in the selection process.

For example, applicants to Medicine who are assigned a Plus Flag will receive:

  • a 10% uplift in their UCAT score

  • additional consideration in terms of academic score

  • a guaranteed invitation to an assessment day
