Undergraduate study - 2025 entry
Edinburgh: Extraordinary futures await.

What happens if you might be eligible for a Flag

If you are assigned a Flag, you’ll be prioritised for a place on degree programmes where competition for places is high.

The information on this page is correct for 2024 entry. We are currently reviewing criteria for 2025 entry. We will update this page once we confirm the criteria.

You will still need to meet the standard entry requirements if you are assigned a Flag.

We will usually make you an offer before making offers to others who have achieved the same grades but who are not eligible for any type of widening access offer.

Check standard entry requirements and required subjects for your programme on the Degree finder

You are not guaranteed an offer if we assign you a Flag

We can’t always guarantee that a Flag applicant will be made an offer.

Offers are usually made to applicants who have achieved, or are predicted to achieve, the top of our standard entry requirement range (where one is stated) or the standard entry requirement.

However, if competition for places is higher than expected, you may need grades above that level to receive an offer.

What you need to do next

If you think you might be eligible for a Flag offer, it’s important to make sure to fill out the relevant information on your UCAS application.

If you think the results of the checker might be incorrect, you can find more information on the differences between Flag and Plus Flag offers on the Widening access criteria page:
