The University of Edinburgh encourages our suppliers to work with us to adopt sustainability improvements and innovations that go beyond contractual requirements.
The Procurement Office and the Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability work together to run engagement events such as our Supplier Sustainability Days. The purpose of these events is to make participants aware of the University’s sustainability priorities and to identify new opportunities to collaborate on solving environmental and labour issues in our supply chains. We know that many of our suppliers are sustainability leaders in their respective sectors. These events are also a chance for us to learn more about their efforts.
A Sustainability Day in November 2018 was attended by 35 suppliers from the construction, catering, IT and labs sectors. The day included an overview of support available from the University to suppliers looking to undertake sustainability-related research and innovation activities. We also asked attendees for honest feedback about how the University could improve its sustainable purchasing approach and engage with them more effectively about these topics.
The University has produced a number of guides for suppliers in key areas. These guides give our suppliers insight into the University’s responsible purchasing approach and sustainability commitments.
Each guide signposts helpful resources and suggests ways suppliers can work with us to improve the sustainability of the goods and services they offer.
