Scholarships and Student Funding

Student Participation Grant

The Participation Grant will be available during the 2023/24 academic year to remove financial barriers students face in taking part in sport and joining student societies that enhance their time at Edinburgh.

About this fund

Each applicant will receive up to £300, this will ensure that you have funding to assist with travel, equipment, and any costs of participation in your chosen society or sporting activity. Only one application and one payment are allowed per student, even if the applications are for less than £300 combined.

Funds are available for academic year 2023/24 and cannot be backdated.

Please note that the fund is now closed as the deadline to apply has passed.

Payments

All payments will be made in pounds sterling to your nominated UK bank account. Payment cannot be made to third parties.

Please ensure you update or add your bank details. (Updating your bank details does not mean you will succeed in your application.)

Student bank details (requires University login)

New students who meet the eligibility criteria and do not have a bank account are still encouraged to apply. However, please provide your bank details once you have set up your account.

Further information about when you will receive your payment will be available in due course.

Overseas bank accounts

We are unable to make payments to overseas bank accounts. You must set up a UK bank account before applying to the fund.

  • you have not provided the appropriate evidence required to process your application
  • you do not meet the eligibility criteria as noted above

Fraudulent Applications

If we suspect you have submitted a fraudulent application or supporting document,  we will investigate. The matter will be addressed within regulations 12.4 of the Student Code of Conduct

If it is decided that your application is fraudulent, you have to pay back your award in full.
