Student Participation Grant
The Participation Grant will be available during the 2022/23 academic year to remove financial barriers students face in taking part in sport and joining student societies that enhance their time at Edinburgh.
Examples of how the grant can be used to support student group and society membership fees, associated trip costs and associated sports kits.
We welcome the return of the Participation Grant. After a successful launch in semester 1, which we awarded over £112,000.
Applications will go live on Wednesday 22 February at 1000 GMT. The fund closed on Friday 7 April at 1630
How much funding can I apply for?
The maximum grant payable per student from the Fund will be £300.
Eligibility
Applications will be accepted from students who meet our eligibility criteria:
- Disabled students, student carers, student parents, care-experienced, estranged students and Asylum Seekers
- UK undergraduate students in receipt of a University of Edinburgh Scholarship, University of Edinburgh Scotland Scholarship or the Access Edinburgh Scholarship
- Postgraduate students who were in receipt of a University of Edinburgh Scholarship or University of Edinburgh Scotland Scholarship or the Access Edinburgh Scholarship as an undergraduate student
- You must be fully matriculated to apply.
- Funds are available for academic year 2022/23 and cannot be backdated for previous years.

How do I apply to the Fund?
The Participation Fund closed on Friday 7 April at 1630.
Previous Applications
If you have applied in semester 1, we will not pay for the same annual membership or club costs or any items associated to a claim in semester 1. A new club or costs from existing clubs must pertain to semester 2 only.
How will payments be made?
All payments will be made in pounds sterling to the applicant’s nominated UK bank account. Payment cannot be made to third parties.

- If your application is successful and you have received an outcome between Friday 10th March and Friday 24th March, we aim to make payment by Monday 10th April. Providing you have supplied bank details.
- If your application is successful and you have received an outcome by 9 March, we aim make payment by 24 March. Providing you have supplied bank details.
- If your application is successful and you have received an outcome between Monday 10TH APRIL and Thursday 20TH APRIL, we aim to make payment by Monday 8TH MAY. Providing you have supplied bank details.
Further information about when you will receive your payment will be available in due course.
When will the fund close?
We will close the fund on Friday 7 April 2023 at 1600 GMT.
Overseas Bank accounts
Unfortunately, we are unable to make payments to overseas bank accounts. You must set up a UK bank account before applying to the fund.

Why was my application rejected?
In order to ensure the limited funds go to those most in need we may reject applications if:
- The funding is only eligible for University societies or sports unions
- You are currently studying away from the University, the fund is for those who are currently studying on campus
- You have not provided the appropriate evidence required to process your application
- You do not meet the eligibility criteria as noted above
Fraudulent Applications
If you submit an application or supporting documentation which we then discover to be fraudulent, or if we receive any information about fraudulent applications, this will be addressed within regulations 12.4 of the Student Code of Conduct. Any funds awarded will need to be paid back in full.
