Language evolution seminar
Speaker: Hanna Tuulikki (University of Edinburgh)
This week, Hanna Tuulikki will be giving us an artist’s talk in our usual CLE slot. This year Hanna is the Leverhulme Trust Artist in Residence at the Centre for Language Evolution. She is an award winning composer, visual artist and performer of international renown. Her practice crosses a wide range of disciplinary boundaries, but primarily she works with voice and gesture. Her previous work includes an investigation of mimesis of birdsong in Gaelic, the use of sign language to explore historic geographies of Edinburgh, and most recently work for the Kochi-Muziris Biennale that draws inspiration from the gestural system of Kutiyattam, an ancient Sanskrit theatre form.
