Shared parental leave policy enhanced

The University has revised its Shared Parental Leave Policy to more closely align with its maternity and adoption leave and pay provisions.

The University is committed to supporting employees who are prospective and new parents, and to providing them with more choice and flexibility regarding the care of their child during the first year of its birth or adoption.

The revised Shared Parental Leave Policy allows parents to access shared parental leave from day one of their employment with the University.

It also enhances statutory shared parental pay in line with the enhanced pay the University offers during maternity and adoption leave.

We are committed to helping employees understand the complexities of the statutory provisions and the enhanced University scheme, how these interface with other family-related policies and to supporting staff through the required notification procedures.

Contact HR

If you wish to take shared parental leave, you should make early contact with your College/Support Group HR Team who will guide you through the policy and the forms to be completed to opt-in to shared parental leave and book time off.

The revised policy will take effect from 1 January 2016 and can be found here.

Parental leave policy update

The parental leave and pay policy (which entitles parents to take leave up to their child’s 18th birthday) has also been revised to ensure clarity of entitlement.

The updated policy can be found here.
