Students seek food bank donations

Staff are invited to support a student initiative to collect donations for Edinburgh's food banks.

ESCAPE, the Edinburgh Students’ Coalition Against Poverty, organises a regular collection on the first Wednesday of every month.

Their next collection, on Wednesday 4 March, will be held at the University Chaplaincy, on Potterow, from 12pm until 2pm.

Food and toiletries

Staff interested in supporting ESCAPE are advised that donations of toiletries and non-perishable food items are welcome, particularly:

  • any canned goods (fruit, vegetables, meat or fish, soup and desserts)
  • pasta sauces
  • cereals
  • powdered milk
  • instant coffee
  • sugar.

Support

ESCAPE's collections are made in support of the Trussell Trust's food banks in Edinburgh.

The Trussell Trust is a UK charity that provides a nationwide network of food banks in partnership with local community groups.

Front line care workers issue a food voucher to those in need, which can be exchanged at a food bank for three days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food.

ESCAPE's first collection took place in May 2014. In December alone, their Christmas appeal collected and donated 225 kilograms of food.
