Launched in March, the new Principal’s Medal for Outstanding Service will reward employees who have made an exceptional contribution to the University community.
Outstanding contributions
The new award will be given in addition to the existing Principal’s Medal for Services to the Community.
Launched in 2008, this award rewards staff or students who have made outstanding contributions to the wider community outside the University.
2010’s winner was Paul Nisbet, Joint Coordinator of University centre Communication Access Literacy and Learning (CALL) Scotland.
Formal recognition
The Principal’s Medal is one of three University awards schemes set up to reward staff.
The Tam Dalyell Prize for Excellence in Engaging the Public with Science, also launched in 2008, recognises researchers who excel in public engagement or science communication.
The last winner was fire safety expert, Professor Jose Torero, who leads a research group within the Institute of Infrastructure and Environment.
The Chancellor’s Awards were established in 2003.
These prizes honour excellence and innovation in teaching and research.
