Working in the UK

Information for current students who are working, or plan to work, in the UK.

Working for the University of Edinburgh

The University is committed to providing an outstanding student experience including, where possible, offering employment opportunities that provide income and work experience during a student’s time with us.

If you came to the UK before 31 October 2019, you’ll be able to work for the University.  If you’re already an employee, your contract will continue as normal.

However, if you want to live, work and/or study in the UK after 31 December 2020 you’ll need to obtain evidence of your right to stay in the UK by applying to the EU Settlement Scheme.  You will need to apply to the Scheme by 30 June 2021. In the event of a ‘no-deal’ Brexit, you will need to apply by 31 December 2020.

If you come to the UK between 31 October 2019 and 31 December 2020, you’ll also be able to work for the University. As above, you’ll need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme if you want to stay in the UK after 31 December 2020, and you’ll need to do so by 30 June 2021. In the event of a no-deal’ Brexit, you’ll need to apply for European Temporary Leave to Remain if you want to live, work and study in the UK after 31 December 2020, and you’ll need to do so by 31 December 2020.
