Edinburgh welcomes UK associate membership of Horizon Europe
The UK and the EU have successfully reached an agreement allowing the UK to re-join the EU’s £85bn science research programme Horizon Europe as an associate member.
We welcome news of an agreement between the UK government and the EU that will see a renewed association with the Horizon Europe research programme. This is extremely welcome news not just for British universities but for the UK’s many European and international research and innovation partners. Access to Horizon Europe also means we can continue to attract the best and brightest minds, work with business and industry across Europe and worldwide, and bridge skills gaps in research and development. Being part of Horizon Europe will boost our collective efforts to tackle the greatest challenges of our time and we stand ready to take full advantage of the opportunities this will bring.
The University of Edinburgh is one of the world’s top research-intensive universities, ranked 4th in the UK for research power, with 90% of our research activity classified as world leading or internationally excellent in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.
We are one of the most internationally collaborative research universities in the UK with almost 55 per cent of our research output published with international co-authors.
Horizon Europe is the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation, with a budget of €95.5 billion up to 2027.
