Nobels for research pioneers

Two winners of the 2014 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine are the latest of many laureates with University links.

May-Britt Moser and Edvard Moser, who are husband and wife and long-term collaborators, are recognised for their work on discoveries of spatial cells in the brain.

From 1995 to 1997, both worked as post-doctoral researchers with Richard Morris, Professor of Neuroscience at the Centre for Cognitive and Neural Systems.

Medical connections

It is wonderful news.

Professor Edvard Moser is an Honorary Professor in the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.

Both scientists are affiliates in the Centre for Cognitive and Neural Systems at the University.

Both have research posts at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

The Mosers share half of the 2014 prize while the other half was awarded to Professor John O’Keefe of University College London.

The University of Edinburgh has links to 21 Nobel Laureates.
