Information on getting to and around Edinburgh and accommodation.

Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city, is the perfect venue for training courses and conferences. With a wealth of things to see and do, ranging from historical buildings to modern art galleries and top theatre productions, you may wish to extend your visit to enjoy some of these.  For more information on things to see and do in Edinburgh go to the Visit Scotland website.

Getting to Edinburgh

Edinburgh is extremely accessible by air, rail and road. 

The airport is a short 25 minute journey from the city centre and is serviced by both buses and trams.  Visit Edinburgh Airport's Website for further information on transport links.  

Edinburgh has two rail stations.  Waverley and Haymarket.  The main station, Waverley, is situated in the city centre just a fifteen minute walk from the University.  Visit the Trainline website for information on rail times to and from Edinburgh please visit

If you plan on travelling to Edinburgh by car you may find the RAC Route Planner useful Parking in Edinburgh city centre is expensive and you should consider parking options when you select your accommodation.

 

Getting Around Edinburgh

The city itself is surprisingly compact and easy to get around.  If you don’t want to explore on foot, there is an excellent transport system boasting both buses and trams to get you around the city.

Our buses and trams use an exact fare system, ie they do not give change. A single bus journey costs £1.60*.

A day ticket, which extends to both trams and buses costs £4*.   

There are also a variety of taxi firms operating in the city including City Cabs (tel. 0131 228 1211). The taxi service Uber, accessible through an app on your mobile phone, also operates in Edinburgh.   

 

Accommodation

Edinburgh has a wide range of accommodation available within the city centre.  The following accommodation options are suggestions only, we do not endorse them. 

Edinburgh First

Edinburgh First are part of the University and offer year round accommodation for visitors as well as students.  The following options are available in November.

KM Central (previously known as Kenneth McKenzie) - 3*

This recently re-furbished accommodation (opening mid summer 2017) offers year round hotel accommodation in the city centre.  The rooms offer a double bed, en-suite facilities, desk and a wardrobe. The design is compact and contemporary and room rates start from £99 (single occupancy) and £119 (double occupancy). Distance from University - approx. ½ mile (10-minute walk).  

Richmond Place Apartments - 3*

Located in the Old Town, Richmond Place apartments offer 3* serviced self-catering accommodation.  Rates start from £107 per apartment. Breakfast can be provided in KM Central for £12.25 per person. Distance from the University - approx. ½ mile (10-minute walk).

Ten minute walk from the University

Ten Hill Place Hotel

Situated a short ten-minute walk from the University, Ten Hill Place Hotel is a 4* hotel. 

Macdonald Holyrood Hotel

This 4* hotel is a 15 minute walk from the University and has a range of facilities including a spa and health club.  Parking is also available at the hotel for an additional charge.

Jury’s Inn

This 3* hotel is conveniently located 15 minutes’ walk from the University and a two minute walk from Waverley Railway station.
