Blackboard Learn is the primary Virtual Learning Environment at the University of Edinburgh. The Learn service currently hosts more than 5000 courses providing access to course materials, assignments, grades, feedback, and much more. Blackboard Learn was created to digitalise the educative experience and offer online teaching and learning tools.  As such, it was not set up purely to be a blogging platform but does come with a blogging tool.  The highlight of using a Learn blog is definitely its  expansive assessment features such as due dates and marking rubrics.

It is good to remember that a Learn blog is only available via a course space in the VLE, and only if a teacher decides to make that resource available. It is not a platform that students would be able to turn to should they want to blog independently. It is worth noting that the blogs within Learn whilst automatically private to EASE are public to all course takers: a blog post cannot be kept private between teacher and student.

Key Features

  • Structured assessment workflow with due dates and marking rubrics
  • Integration with Turnitin
  • Access private to those registered on a course
  • Simple learning curve
  • Individual student, group or course blogs are possible

How do I get a Learn blog?

You can only get a VLE blog if you are an instructor with a course on Learn.
