Opportunities

Find out about opportunities in our group, including PhD and MSc degrees, collaborations, research visits, and training.

Studentships

Our group has a wide range of both PhD and Master by research students.  Students often work collaboratively and our vibrant group meets weekly for informal talks, and paper discussions.  We are open to enquiries about PhD projects.  If you are considering doing a PhD with us, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will put you in touch with some of our graduates.

PhD opportunities

A PhD in Edinburgh typically takes between 3 to 4 years (full-time), and here in Edinburgh, you will join a vibrant postgraduate community.  Students will typically be funded through Edinburgh's NERC-funded "Edinburgh E4" Doctoral Training Programme or via the SENSE Centre for Doctoral Training, for which we typically advertise projects in the November-January window each year.

Masters opportunities

MSc in Edinburgh typically takes 1 year (full-time) and there are many exciting opportunities to integrate yourself and your research with the wider Edinburgh Cryosphere group.  You can do an MSc by Research, which means dedicating a full year to your research project (with no taught components).

An alternative route would be to select a Taught MSc programme, e.g. in Geographical Information Science, Earth Observation and Geoinformation Management, Marine Systems and Policies, or the M.Earth.Sci, and undertake your independent research component in the Land Surface Dynamics group.
