EI Engage

Engage is an online learning programme that consolidates training and events offered by Edinburgh Innovations to give you the tools and confidence to grasp commercial opportunities and supports translation of your research. It’s a practical programme for research staff at any level.

At Edinburgh Innovations we benefit society and the economy by helping researchers, students and industry drive innovation. We seek opportunities, we build partnerships, we make the journey easy, and we add value at every stage.

 

EI Engage is a set of stand-alone, individual modules that are designed to introduce you to key business topics. You can choose to study just one, some, or all of the modules. The modules are available all year, every year, so you can do the modules at the right time for you or come back to if you would like to refer to the content and learning at a later stage.

How do I protect intellectual property?  

After participating in this ENGAGE programme module, you’ll be able to: 

  • Describe what IP is, how it applies and how we do IP at Edinburgh 
  • List do's and don'ts in relation to IP 
  • Map out how to protect IP (optional) 
  • Connect to the most appropriate people in Edinburgh Innovations 

Commitment 

  • 1-2 hours of learner effort 
  • Complete at any time

How do I commercialise my idea?  

After participating in this ENGAGE programme module, you’ll be able to: 

  • Describe the requirements for the company formation process 
  • Understand the options for commercialisation of technology/IP (licence/startup/spinout) 
  • Connect to the most appropriate people in Edinburgh Innovations 

Commitment 

  • Open entry and flexible start dates 
  • 1-2 hours of online content and activities 
  • A one hour small group session facilitated on MS Teams with course facilitators where you can share with peers and ask questions
