For staff

Edinburgh Innovations

We are the University's commercialisation service. Edinburgh Innovations (EI) leads the University’s activities in industry engagement and business development, enterprise support for students and staff, and the identification, management and commercialisation of University intellectual property.

Our Business Development experts are embedded in the University's Schools as the first points of contact for staff seeking to commercialise their work or ideas. They will help you explore your options, provide practical help at every stage and introduce you to EI’s range of professional expertise.

We guide you on how best to create impact and commercialise your research, depending on the type and stage of technology, the market demand, and your ambitions

If your research generates innovation with potential, log it using our disclosure tool, and we will advise how to manage intellectual property, enter a licence agreement, and create impact from your research.

Enterprise Services

We advise and support you to form a spinout company, based on the IP generated from your research, when that’s the best option.

Consultancy

We source and advise on consultancy work, which is a potential route to further collaboration, and we negotiate contracts.

Funding

Our experts will advise you on the range of different funding streams available, and we support you to secure funding for your project.
