The Department of Economics at the University of Aberdeen is an extremely active, lively, friendly and dynamic environment.

The department has roughly twenty full time academic members, as well as a number of research fellows and assistants. The Department of Economics is also home to the Scottish Experimental Economics Laboratory (SEEL), the Centre for European Labour Market Research (CELMR), and the Aberdeen Centre for Research in Energy Economics and Finance (ACREEF).

Research Strengths

The Economics Department has an established tradition of research in applied economics, particularly in the areas of labour economics, the economics of health and wellbeing, experimental economics and energy economics. There is also important research activity in macroeconomics, microeconomics, economics of finance, agricultural economics, international economics, urban/regional economics and environmental economics.

There are especially strong links between the Economics Department and the Health Economics Research Unit (HERU), one of the leading centres in health economics in Europe.

Applicants should have prior training in appropriate research methods at the postgraduate level. Applicants must provide a detailed research proposal and two academic references from their most recent academic institution.
