Multi-Faith and Belief Chaplaincy, For All Faiths and None

Rituals, Weddings and Ceremonies

Rituals, weddings and other ceremonies can be organised with a Chaplain.

Who is eligible?

The priority for eligibility is:

  • Current students and staff
  • Former students and staff
  • The immediate family of current students and staff

Celebrations and blessings are available for all marriages and civil partnerships. The Chaplain and Associate Chaplain are ordained by Christian churches which have chosen not to opt in to same-sex marriages, and thus cannot legally officiate them, but several of the Honorary Chaplains are happy to officiate for same-sex marriages. Please contact the Chaplaincy for more details.

Venues

The University Sanctuary is very small and not usually suitable for ceremonies.

There are various venues around the University campus which can be used for ceremonies (the Playfair Library, George Square Gardens, the McEwan Hall, Teviot Union). Equally, a Chaplain can lead ceremonies in external venues (Greyfriars Kirk, the Botanic Gardens, the nearby National Museum of Scotland, and others). Contact the Chaplaincy for further details.
