CGEM scientific away day
January 2017: The CGEM all-staff away day consisted of a series of exceptional talks and a closely fought student poster competition.
The Annual CGEM Scientific Away day for all staff and affiliates of the Centre was held on January 31st at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. Staff from across all four sections of CGEM participated, with a variety of excellent presentations from academics, researchers and clinicians covering the whole breadth of CGEM activities. The speakers were diverse and engaging, keeping the audience of over 70 engrossed for a full day.
In addition, nine post-graduate students (both masters and doctoral) entered the poster competition, presenting their research over a range of subjects in poster format, as well as a series of 3-minute “poster pitches”. The students were allowed only one slide to entice the audience to view their posters, as well as the rigorously enforced 3-minute time limit.
The four judges from CGEM were impressed with the quality of the posters and presentations, and awarded two runner-up prizes of £50 each to Réka Nagy and Nwamaka Idigo. The first prize of £100 was awarded to Fiona McLachlan for her excellent poster and presentation, and her breadth of knowledge around her research area.
