Programme structure

This part-time modular postgraduate programme is taught and assessed fully online. There are specific requirements of the masters, diploma, and certificate programmes.

The Data Science, Technology and Innovation suite of postgraduate programmes consist of modular online learning courses across the sciences, medicine, arts and humanities.  The mode of delivery (online learning) is not specified on award certificates.  Additional information about the flexible structure of each programme based on the University regulations is provided below. Programmes are normally taken on a part-time intermittent basis but can be completed in a shorter time frame as noted below (part-time).

Assessments

Each programme has been designed with flexibility in mind, enabling each student to undertake a path through the programme with the most relevant courses. MSc in Data Science, Technology and Innovation

The MSc consists of 120 taught credits followed by a 60 credit dissertation. This programme includes a compulsory course: Practical Introduction to Data Science.

  • The prescribed timeframe to complete the MSc (part-time intermittent study) is 6 years (180 credits) with a maximum allowable timeframe of 9 years (by concession).
  • The programme may be completed within a shorter time frame, for example part-time over 3 years.  

Postgraduate Diploma in Data Science, Technology and Innovation

The PG Diploma (PG Dip) consists of 120 taught credits. This programme includes a compulsory course: Practical Introduction to Data Science.

  • The prescribed timeframe to complete the PG Dip (part-time intermittent study) is 4 years (120 credits) with a maximum allowable timeframe of 6 years 9 months (by concession).
  • The programme may be completed within a shorter time frame, for example part-time over 2 years.  

Postgraduate Certificate in Data Science, Technology and Innovation

The PG Certificate (PG Cert) consists of 60 taught credits. This programme includes a compulsory course: Practical Introduction to Data Science.

  • The prescribed timeframe to complete the PG Cert (part-time intermittent study) is 2 years with a maximum allowable time frame of 4 years, 4 months (by concession).  
  • The programme may be completed within a shorter time frame, for example part-time over 1 year.  

Postgraduate Professional Development (PPD) (ProfDev)

Each course is also available as Postgraduate Professional Development (PPD) with multiple start dates throughout the year. This option is ideal for those who are interested in studying at postgraduate level without taking on the time or financial commitment of a full programme. These short, stand-alone courses which provide training in specific areas are credit-bearing and may be put towards postgraduate qualifications in Data Science, Technology and Innovation should students wish to continue on to a full programme. 

  • When studying PPD, up to 50 credits can be completed within 2 years.
