Institutional Review (ELIR) 2020

What is the Enhancement-Led Institutional Review? Briefings for staff and students, and information on the review process.

Enhancement-Led Institutional Review (ELIR) is the method by which the Quality Assurance Agency (Scotland) reviews universities and other higher education institutions in Scotland. The last ELIR took place in 2015 and the University received the highest possible judgement, an outcome of 'effectiveness' in the management of academic standards and enhancing quality. The University’s next ELIR takes place in February and March 2021 (dates had to be rescheduled from 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic).

Key dates

A review team, comprising between four to six senior academic peer reviewers and student reviewers is appointed by the Quality Assurance Agency (Scotland) to conduct the ELIR and will visit the University twice, meeting with staff and students.

  • Planning Visit: 3 February 2021
  • Review Visit: Week beginning 22 March 2021 (visit likely to last 5 days)
