The International Office representative for China is Esther Sum
Esther visits China several times a year to participate in exhibitions, give presentations and meet with potential students.
There are over 1,400 students from China currently studying at the University of Edinburgh.
The University of Edinburgh was the first in Europe to admit a Chinese student, Huang Kuan, who graduated as a Doctor of Medicine in 1855. Since then the University's Chinese alumni have included many distinguished contributors to public life, science and medicine, including Professor Zhong Nanshan, President of the Chinese Medical Association and leader of the team that identified the SARS virus.
