Vet students help homeless people and pets
Vet students have distributed bags packed with Christmas treats and useful items to people and their dogs living on Edinburgh's streets.
Almost 100 bags filled with essential items including clothing, toiletries, drinks, blankets and food, have been handed to homeless people in the city. The bags also contained a Christmas card and sweet treats.
Rucksacks were gifted by pet food company Royal Canin and filled with donations by staff and students from the University's Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and the Roslin Institute.
Pet clinic
Items for animals, including toys, food and blankets, were also handed out at All4Paws – a student run veterinary clinic which provides free care for homeless pets.
The bags were handed out directly to people in the city at soup kitchens, in collaboration with local charities aimed at tackling homelessness.
We are delighted to have collected more bags this year than ever before. We hope the donations will be of use to homeless people and their pets around the city.
The support from the vet school and from the staff and students have been great. We were so pleased to see first-hand how the bags could help people and animals living on the streets.
