Student-led tours are ideal for visitors to the city who want to find out more about student life and our campuses. We provide tours for both the Central Campus and King’s Buildings Campus. Our campus tours offer potential undergraduate and postgraduate students from anywhere in the world an opportunity to visit us and learn about the experience of our students while studying at the University of Edinburgh.The campus tour is free to attend, but you must book your space in advance. Family and friends are also welcome, however, we kindly request only one additional guest accompanies you on the tour. This is to ensure maximum availability for prospective students.These group tours do not offer detailed subject-specific information, meetings with subject areas or potential supervisors. When do tours take place? Our final tours in July 2026 have now taken place. We will next be running tours in October 2026. You can sign up to our campus tour mailing list to get an email as soon as tours are made available to book. If you are visitng before we restart you may wish to make use of our self-guided tours.Self-guided toursOur campus tours run from October to the first week of December and mid-January to July each year.In January, we aim to start running tours in line with the beginning of the semester which tends to be around the third week of January. During busier times of year we may run tours on additional weekdays, most likely Wednesdays. When tours are available to book the upcoming days can be seen in the booking form. Our first tour will normally begin at 12:00. Each tour will take between 45 minutes and 1 hour. Dates and times will be available once booking is live.If you wish to tour King's Buildings as well as Central we recommend you finish your Central Campus tour with at least 45 minutes to allow you to self-transfer between campuses. One of our paid Student Ambassadors will lead you, as part of a group, around the campus. The tour will give you an insight into what life is like as a student here. The tour does not include visits to specific Schools, departmental buildings or student accommodation, however, your guide will share their experience of studying and living in Edinburgh. Our Central Campus tour offers the best general introduction to the University as most of our students will interact with this campus in some way, either academically or socially.King's Buildings is ideal for those interested in subjects taught on that campus, most of those in our College of Science and Engineering.Our tour booking form will recommend tours to you based on the subjects you select when booking. Cancellations We will explore all options to avoid cancelling our tours, however there may be rare occasions where tours are cancelled at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. We are unable to accept liability for any costs incurred by visitors (e.g. travel, accommodation). You might want to consider travel insurance or flexible tickets.
