Josh Croall is a 3rd year student studying MA Japanese.

"My mind was made up on Edinburgh after attending the post-offer visit day where I was able to meet a number of the teaching staff and current students of the programme."

My programme

"I had initially been considering the University of Edinburgh as it was the only institution in Scotland that offered an undergraduate programme in Japanese.

The most challenging thing about my programme is the volume of work. That it is not to say that it is excessive, but most of the deadlines all seem to overlap such that there is a bit of a perpetual cycle of stress."

My student experience

"Having lived in Edinburgh before, there wasn't much of a second thought regarding moving here again! One of the most convenient things however is the fact that almost everything you need will be in walking distance.

I will admit that the most enjoyable thing about student life is the discounts. Other than that, I enjoy the fact that there is a large body of people who are (mostly) willing to widen their horizons - it allows for a very intellectually engaging experience."

My future

"The teaching staff and postgraduates often offer insight into the types of careers past students have entered, and more importantly, how they got there.

For those planning to work abroad in Japan, they also inform you of certain cultural nuances or practices to bear in mind for the future."
