Awards

We are offering up to two bursaries for full time students that will cover all tuition fees. For most of our programmes, these are £19,100 for UK students and £40,900 for International students (but check the degree finder here for specific information on fees). These awards are intended to allow highly skilled and motivated applicants to study here who might otherwise not be able to afford the opportunity.

Eligibility

You can only apply for the bursaries once you have received an offer (conditional or unconditional) to join one of the eligible programmes and have either firmly accepted the offer or be intending to do so. The bursary selection panel can only consider your application if you hold an active offer throughout your bursary application process (meaning if your offer is declined at any point up until the bursary decision deadline you will no longer be eligible).

You can request an extension to your deposit payment deadline based on awaiting the outcome of this Bursary application.

You will not be eligible for this bursary if:

1. you are fully sponsored by your employer;
2. you are already in receipt of a full bursary; or
3. you already hold or will hold a master’s degree or PhD qualification.

Other eligibility requirements depend upon if you would pay UK or international fees.

For UK applicants:

You must be a UK national domiciled in the UK.

In addition, you must meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:

1. You are care-experienced. We define care experience as any time spent in care at any stage of your life. Care may have been provided in one of many different settings, such as if you were:

   • in residential care;
   • in foster care;
   • in kinship care; or
   • looked after at home with a supervision requirement.

This includes adopted children who were previously looked after. There is no age restriction on our definition of care experienced.

Support for Students with Care Experience

2. You were/are in receipt of a Maintenance Grant as an undergraduate (if you started your undergraduate course after August 2016 you will need to provide evidence from the Student Loans Company to confirm your household income was assessed as £40,000 or less).
3. You were/are in receipt of a Young Students’ Bursary, an Independent Students’ Bursary, or a Care Experienced Students’ Bursary as an undergraduate—as assessed by Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS).
4. You live in an area within the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation lowest 20% (SIMD20).
5. You live in an area with an Acorn classification of 5.

To check your eligibility for the two postcode criteria above, use the postcode lookup tool. We will use the home address where you lived during your last year of school or college.

For international applicants:

Applicants must be nationals from countries defined by the DAC List of ODA Recipients. These are countries that have been designated as low- and middle-income countries based upon gross national income as published by the World Bank, except for G8 members, EU members, and countries with a firm date for entry into the EU.

Criteria

Students on PGT programmes longer than one year may apply but must be aware that this funding is for one year only, therefore, students are advised to budget accordingly.

Applying

Eligible applicants should complete an online scholarship application.

The bursary deadline is 23:59 BST 21st May 2024. 

In order to gain access to the scholarship application system, applicants must have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh.  Please note that, following the submission of an application for admission, it can take up to five working days for all system checks to be completed and for access to be granted.

The online scholarship application form is located in EUCLID and can be accessed via MyEd our web based information portal at https://www.myed.ed.ac.uk

When logging in to MyEd, you will need your University User Name and password.  If you require assistance, please go to http://www.ed.ac.uk/student-systems/support-guidance If you have not applied for admission, please go ahead and do this and you will receive your University User Name and password.

Applicants must provide an impact statement detailing their need and justifying their eligibility based upon the criteria given above. Applications will be evaluated based upon eligibility, need, and academic merit.
