The SLICCs journey in detail

Summary of the SLICCs journey - key components, step-by-step timeline, and video overview.

 

Reflecting and reporting – During their SLICC, students will reflect regularly on their experiences, and submit an Interim and a Final Reflective Report about how they have addressed the SLICC learning outcomes.

Feedback and assessment – Students receive formative academic feedback from their SLICC tutor at the proposal stage, and formative feedback on their Interim Reflective Report, and then a mark and feedback on their Final Reflective Report.  Students must also self-assess their Final Reflective Report

Learning from challenges and setbacks – Students may not achieve everything they set out to do, however the SLICC reflective framework allows for this, enabling students to show how they have learnt from working on problems and even their mistakes, and demonstrating how they would approach things differently in the future.

APPLICATION:

  • After identifying what your summer learning experience will be, you will submit an initial application.
  • Your application will be reviewed and if approved, SLICCs learning resources will be released to you, guiding you through the next stages.

PROPOSAL:

  • ​You will then write and submit a formal Proposal, including:
    • a title
    • an explanation of the context/setting of your summer learning experience
    • the aims of your chosen learning experience
    • how you intend to demonstrate each of the 5 SLICC learning outcomes
    • how you intend to actively reflect on your learning throughout the experience
    • an indication of the timeline of your SLICC, including start and end dates and a submission deadline for your Interim Reflective Report
  • After submitting your Proposal, your assigned SLICC tutor will either approve it or communicate the changes that need to be made before it can be accepted.

SLICC commences:

  • Your SLICC can commence following the summer examination diet in May.
  • You should then actively reflect as your experience progresses, according to the schedule outlined in your Proposal, collecting evidence as you progress through regular reflective blogs.

INTERIM REFLECTIVE REPORT:

  • By the date you specified in your Proposal, submit your Interim Reflective Report for your tutor to review and provide feedback.
  • Continue reflective blogging and learning through experience for the remainder of your SLICC.

FINAL REFLECTIVE REPORT:

  • Submit your Final Reflective Report (around 3,000 words), incorporating the interim feedback you received from your tutor, along with a self-assessment.
  • Your report will be graded by SLICC staff and feedback will be released.
  • You will have the opportunity to connect with your tutor to discuss your progress and feedback.
