Viewing and using dashboards in Power BI
Power BI dashboards can be accessed and interacted with through a number of ways in order to find the information you require.
All University of Edinburgh Staff with an Office 365 account have Power BI enabled, this allows you to view and interact with Reports that have been shared with you via 'Apps' by those that have a paid for Power BI Pro licence. To access the content that has been shared with you navigate to Power BI Home and click 'Apps' or follow the steps laid out below.
- Sign into your UoE Office 365 account Office 365 login
- Click the 'App Launcher' in the top left of the screen
- Click on the 'Power BI' icon
Power BI reports can be shared directly in the Power BI service in Office 365 (located in the waffle menu in Office 365), through SharePoint sites, or directly onto web pages.
If you are viewing a report in Power BI, the owner of the report may have sent you a direct link, if not the report or dashboard will be located in the Power Bi Apps section. You will need to navigate to the Power BI Apps section in Power BI to open the content.
Is there training available for interacting with Power BI
If you are going to be using Power BI reports we recommend reviewing the different sections of the page and report. The University's Power BI team are currently building a bespoke learning tool for learning about using Power BI - ETA Sept 2018. I am trying to see a Power BI report in SharePoint, I can see a grey logo but the content never loads
Owners of reports and dashboards must grant you access in Power BI to view the report, they can grant you access by adding you to the access list in the App Workspace in Power BI
Why when I am looking at a report I am directed to the Microsoft webpage?
As a user just viewing reports, some features in Power BI are unavailable. You should not require a Pro License if you are not creating new reports or dashboards and then sharing them. If you believe you may require a Pro License please review the features and access process for Pro Licenses
