What is Molecular Pathology?

Molecular Pathology seeks to describe and understand the changes that occur in the human body at a molecular level (such as DNA, RNA and protein) that can lead to development and progression of diseases. Analysis of these molecules within tissue and body fluids can aid in more accurate diagnosis and monitoring of diseases, which in turn can be used to tailor a ‘personalised medicine’ approach to patient care.

MRC Review of UK Molecular Pathology landscape

In August 2014 the Medical Research Council (MRC) published a comprehensive review of the UK’s capabilities in molecular pathology. The review identified three key areas which, if not addressed, could inhibit the discovery, development and adoption of innovative diagnostic tests that will ultimately offer clinical, economic and research benefits.
