Developing Treatment Summaries
IHDP has brought together key stakeholders to determine what information should be included in cancer Treatment Summaries across Scotland.
The IHDP has produced a report detailing the benefits of using Treatment Summaries in cancer care.
Treatment Summaries are documents completed by doctors or specialist nurses that provide a record of the treatment received, potential side effects, consequences of treatment, and signs and symptoms of recurrence to patients and carers.
Treatment Summaries empower patients, as they feel more confident in their ability to manage their own health, and streamline communication between hospital and general practice, which will ultimately lead to better care at the end of treatment.
With clinical agreement in place for the Treatment Summary, NHS Education for Scotland Digital Service can start designing a Treatment Summary tool. This tool will link into the new National Digital Platform and form part of the first step in the implementation of Treatment Summaries across Scotland.
