Teviot Row House building works

As part of our mission to improve our students’ University experience, we continually invest in our buildings to provide world-class facilities for our students, staff and visitors.

In line with this investment, it is currently our intention to start upgrade works to Teviot Row House – the world’s oldest purpose-built Students’ Union – in late 2023.

The current proposals will provide a number of benefits:

·        Improved facilities including modernised spaces for studying, social use and societies

·        Improved services and toilet provision

·        Improved accessibility and wayfinding

·        A more efficient and sustainable building

·        Upgraded essential services and fire safety measures

At this stage, the plan is to close the building from late 2023, so that the building works can be completed as efficiently and cost effectively as possible, minimising the disruption to students, staff and visitors.

We are currently working with the Students’ Association to investigate what alternative study/social/society spaces can be offered throughout this period to minimise the disruption to students, including in the evenings and during weekends.

As part of this process, a planning and listed building consent will be submitted to support the proposals. Further details will be published on these pages once they have been confirmed.
