The Edinburgh Award

Each year, The Edinburgh Award recognises more than 1,000 University of Edinburgh students for their involvement in a variety of activities and their commitment to own personal development. Its aim is to recognise students’ involvement in various activities outside of their degree programme.

The Award programme is run by staff across the University with each version focusing on a different activity. Students’ experiences are tailored depending on the activity they are doing and the skills they want to develop.

Students who participate in the Edinburgh Award exemplify much that employers value in our graduates. Not only have they given time to activities outside of studies – whether that’s part-time work, volunteering, community work or peer support – but they have invested in their own personal development, working to gain as much as possible from their time at Edinburgh. They are fantastic ambassadors for us.
