Edinburgh graduates win Schwarzman Scholarships

Max Browning and Mekila Ngwambe selected to study at the prestigious Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University 

The Schwarzman Scholars programme supports up to 200 young leaders annually from around the world for a one-year masters in global affairs at China’s Tsinghua University. This is the first time two successful applicants have studied at the University of Edinburgh.

Max Browning

Max completed his MA in Chinese and Russian at the University of Edinburgh in 2022. He is currently pursuing an MSc in East Asian Relations and continues to play an active role in the student community, serving as a trustee at the Edinburgh University Students’ Assocation. He also runs the One Scotland Initiative, a student-led charity fostering cultural exchange and integration in Edinburgh and beyond. 

Mekila Ngwambe, UofE
Mekila Ngwambe

Mekila graduated from the Catholic University of Cameroon in Classical Philosophy, after which he received the 2020/21 MasterCard Foundation Scholarship to study for an MSc in Africa & International Development at the University of Edinburgh. He is the founder of Sunsave Solutions, an organisation providing access to affordable off-grid electricity in Central Africa.

Schwarzman Scholars 

Schwarzman Scholars are selected based on their leadership qualities and their potential to understand and bridge cultural and political differences. Max and Mekila join a global network of young leaders working to confront pressing challenges facing the world.
