Lunar New Year

Celebrate the start of the Year of the Ox with our Lunar New Year activities.

Lunar New Year

Friday 12 February marks Lunar New Year, an important festival for a large number of our student and staff community.

While a lot of our students are engaging in study away from Edinburgh, many of our international students will be celebrating the occasion far from home.

The University has pulled together a range of activities that our students and staff can get involved with to celebrate the festival.

Celebrating Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year activities are online and students and staff can take part no matter where they might be in the world.

You can join online origami making sessions, a virtual New Year gathering, and even take part in a classic Chinese cinema class.

Find out more and sign up to the activities on our Events App.

As we ring in the [Chinese] Year of the Ox, many of us may not be able to have the traditional celebrations we had hoped for. Nonetheless, in Chinese Zodiac, the Year of the Ox symbolises strength, determination, and diligence - all of which are qualities which would be helpful for all of us in the current environment. No matter where you are, and however you are celebrating this year, I wish you and your family a wonderful and bright year ahead
