Supporting global action on the climate crisis

Friday 20 September is a day of global action on the climate crisis, and the University is encouraging students and staff who would like to show their support to get involved.

The University of Edinburgh shares the deep concern about the climate crisis and the call for sustained and urgent action, with social and civic responsibility a key focus in the University’s new Strategic Plan.

A number of University events and stalls about the climate crisis will take place between 9am and 5pm on Friday 20 September. These will be organised across the campuses by the Social Responsibility and Sustainability team, and further details are available on the SRS website.

We encourage you to visit to show your concern and hear more about the real contribution the University is making to tackle climate change. You will also be able to contribute your views on our future approach and find out how you can play your part.

Please be mindful that operations at the University – including classes and lectures – will continue as usual throughout the day.

As a University we are proud of what we have done over decades to bring forward an understanding of climate and environmental change and to be setting an example of how to transition to a net-zero carbon University. However, along with this, we realise there is more to do.  This is why the challenges of climate and environmental change, and our role in helping deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals locally and globally, remain a key priority for our evolving strategy and actions.
