Awards celebrate commitment to sustainability
Students and staff have been recognised in the University’s annual Sustainability Awards.
Prizes were awarded to teams for their contributions to the University’s efforts to become more socially responsible and sustainable.
The winners were announced by the Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability at an awards ceremony in St. Cecilia's Hall.
Working practices
Staff teams participating in the Office and Lab Sustainability Awards must fulfil a range of criteria focused on promoting ethical and environmentally friendly working practices and behaviours.
Office Awards were presented to 17 teams across the University. Five teams won gold awards, seven received silver and five were awarded bronze.
Nine teams won Lab Awards, with two gold, four silver and three bronze prizes presented.
Student halls
Student Residence Awards encourage students to work with the University to establish more sustainable practices in their halls.
Three teams received gold awards, eight were awarded silver and four were presented with bronze.
Wider recognition
Two new award categories were introduced this year, including the Community Partnership Awards. Five of these were presented to recognise positive social impact and partnership working with local communities.
In the other new category, Social Responsibility and Sustainability Changemakers, three staff were recognised for their leadership in sustainability, despite it not being a formal part of their role.
Congratulations to all of this year’s Sustainability Awards recipients! Your enthusiasm, dedication and actions exemplify the attitude required by everyone at the University to create a more socially responsible and sustainable place for us all to work, teach and learn. I thank each and every one of you for the time you have put in, and hope you continue to enjoy taking part.
