Student duo win rowing gold medals

Two Edinburgh students have won gold medals at the U-23 World Rowing Championships.

Matt Curtis and Gavin Horsburgh were in the Great Britain team that secured top spot in the Men’s Lightweight Quadruple skulls.

The crew was coached by the University’s Head of Rowing, Colin Williamson.

Elite rowers

The Under-23 World Rowing Championships saw nearly 900 athletes compete over five days.

Medals were awarded to 26 countries in the finals of the Championships at the Willem-Alexander Baan Rowing Regatta course in Rotterdam.

The Championships formed part of the combined 2016 World Rowing Senior, Under-23 and Junior World Rowing Championships.

Performance programme

The University’s Performance Rowing programme aims to develop athletes to national and international standard, whether they arrive at Edinburgh as experienced juniors or complete novices.

Edinburgh University Boat Club's High Performance Programme is recognised and supported by the GB Rowing Team and funded through the National Lottery.

The club has a track record of coaching rowers to challenge for a place in the GB Rowing National Squads and is committed to Rowing's World Class Performance Strategy.
