Ethical efforts recognised

Edinburgh has achieved an upper second-class award in People & Planet’s University League 2015.

The independent league table is compiled annually by the UK’s largest student campaigning network, People & Planet.

It ranks UK universities on their environmental and ethical performance.

Edinburgh maintained its 2:1 score achieved last year, while improving its position by two places to 44th out of 151 UK institutions.

Strong results

The University achieved the top score across all institutions for its efforts to enhance fair trade and sustainable procurement.

It was also recognised for its work around sustainable food and drink, with the drinking water policy, support offered to student societies, and bronze Food for Life catering mark highlighted.

Edinburgh also scored well for the measures and partnership agreements put in place to improve energy use, sustainable laboratories, procurement, travel and waste.

This achievement reflects the efforts of staff and students in making the University of Edinburgh more socially responsible. I am particularly pleased that despite continued growth in the size of our campus, we have not only maintained our position but continued to improve our score.
