Closure of Forth Road Bridge

Information on travel planning and working arrangements following the temporary closure of the Forth Road Bridge

The Forth Road Bridge is closed and will remain so while essential repairs are carried out.

It is anticipated that the work will take at least three weeks and the Bridge will remain closed until the start of the New Year.

Travel planning

The Scottish Government has put in place an integrated travel plan which includes additional rail and bus services and priority bus/HGV lanes between Fife and Edinburgh.

A dedicated website to help travellers plan their commute can be accessed here: http://www.chooseanotherway.com/travel-planning-tools.php.

Keep updated

In line with advice from the Scottish Government, staff are encouraged to consider their travel plans in advance over the coming weeks, take advantage of additional public transport arrangements, and keep up to date with Traffic Scotland announcements.

Working arrangements

While it is expected that staff impacted by the Bridge closure may arrive late for work in the first few days of the integrated plan taking shape and bedding in, and will be paid for this time, they should make every effort to get to work on time thereafter.

If difficulties persist, staff should discuss with their line manager the possibility of short-term flexible working arrangements such as altering start and finish times, compressed hours or, where feasible, working from home to alleviate the need to travel at all or to travel at the busiest times of the day.

We will continue to keep the situation under review, particularly at times of adverse weather.
