Service to mark Remembrance Day
Edinburgh’s universities will hold their annual service for Remembrance Day later this month.
The University of Edinburgh will hold the service alongside Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh Napier and Queen Margaret universities to commemorate students and staff who have died during wars and other conflicts while serving in the Armed Forces.
Students, staff and alumni from all participating universities are welcome to attend, along with family, friends, and members of the public.
The service will be conducted by the chaplains to the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University.
A collection will be held in aid of the Poppy Scotland, which provides support for current and former members of the Armed Forces as well as their families.
Student representation
The City of Edinburgh Universities Officers Training Corps, the Royal Naval Reserve and the East of Scotland Universities’ Air Squadron will be on parade during the service.
The Pipes and Drums of the Universities Officers Training Corps will provide musical accompaniment to proceedings.
Two-minute silence
At the end of the service, the Services contingent will form in the Old College quadrangle to observe a two-minute silence. This will be followed by the laying of wreaths at the University’s war memorial.
The service will take place on Sunday, 12 November 2023 at 10:15am at the Playfair Library in Old College. Those attending should be seated in the Playfair Library Hall no later than 10:00 am.
