The ISSF fund

Wellcome's Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF) is intended to support institutional strategies for the biomedical sciences.

Wellcome's key objectives for the Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF3) from 2016:

"Our Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF) enables universities in the UK and Ireland to invest in areas that are of mutual strategic importance to Wellcome and the individual institutions. These are within and across medical and clinical sciences, public health, social sciences and medical humanities."

Current  ISSF Award: ISSF3

1. The current ISSF award, for the five academic years  2016/17 - 2020/21, is separate from previous ISSF awards and should be referred to as 'ISSF3'.
2. The key difference between ISSF3 and previous awards is that ISSF3 awards will be made in a number of new strategic areas, as agreed with the Wellcome Trust. Please refer to the 'Areas to be funded' page and the Application Guidance.
3. Up to £1.75M is available to award each academic year.
