Edinburgh Clinical Academic Track (ECAT)

Inaugural ECAT SUSTAIN meeting October 2017

The first ECAT SUSTAIN event

On 9 & 10 October 2017, ECAT ran its first SUSTAIN event based on the Academy of Medical Science’s (AMS) successful SUSTAIN programme for women in the early stages of their research career.  This  innovative programme of training and support aims to develop participants’ leadership and career potential.  The two-day ECAT event was held at Edinburgh’s G&V Hotel and was open by invitation to both men and women who were either in the last year of their ECAT PhD or in the early stages of their ECAT postdoctoral clinical lectureship.

Speakers included Peter Bishop (PBP Life Coaching), Simon Cain (Westbourne Training & Consulting), Sarah Shinton (Institute for Academic Decelopment, The University of Edinburgh), Susan Shenkin (Geriatric Medicine, The University of Edinburgh), Kenny Baillie (The Roslin Institute), and Jen Middleton (Press Office, The University of Edinburgh).

Kenny was well placed to speak to the group about resilience having been part of the first ECAT cohort in 2008.  Kenny completed his PhD in 2012 and in 2013 was awarded a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Clinical Fellowship.

The event was very successful and was extremely well received by all participants.  We aim to run it again in the spring of 2019.  The programme is available below.
